Ethan Miller

Cynical, brilliant, and exactly as loud as the room needs.

Ethan Miller is Guy and Kate's nephew, sixteen, and the group's heartbeat. He is cynical, brilliant, and useful whenever the room needs a clarinet, a beat, or a refusal, and he supplies all three with equal conviction.

He thinks Broadway is dead and says so often. A percussionist who finds rhythm in everything, he pioneered what the others call the rebel clarinet: an ordinary instrument run through a distortion pedal until it argues back.

Because his uncle owns the Jewish Snack, the cafe stage is open to the students in a way it is open to no one else, which makes Ethan, almost by accident, the reason the class has a home at all.

He is also the only one in the room brave enough to treat Bunny Montgomery like a normal human being, which she pretends to dislike.
