The film in one paragraph
At a private arts school on Manhattan’s West 48th Street, Joseph Shapiro brings his late mother Rebecca’s songbook to class and proposes a concert in her memory. His students want to sing the songs in English, in their own voices. Their disagreement gives way to new arrangements and, later, a forty-five-minute school show called Jewish The Musical. The school performance opens a path to a national competition whose final is in Times Square.
The film opens before any of that: students singing and dancing to “Broadway” beside the school’s beautiful lockers.
The Long Walk for a Slice
Read the first-draft screenplay for the proposed proof-of-concept short. After the students' show, Joseph revisits their Times Square performance and finds a reason to walk toward a slice counter. The short has not been produced.

The development request
JEWISH was submitted to Reboot Studios with a $25,000 recoupable-development request. The filed cover letter proposed two development outcomes:
- A 10–15-minute proof-of-concept short
- Six to eight release-quality English recordings
That submission remains under review; it does not establish a funded production package or timeline. Walter is revising the feature screenplay first. The Long Walk for a Slice is a first-draft short screenplay that could help test the story later, if rights, creative tests, a full third-party budget and a separate production decision support it. Selection, funding and production are unconfirmed. His development page explains the current sequence.
