JEWISH · The story is still being written
What would you say next?
A classroom. An old song. Someone who needs to be heard.
Step into the world of the Sharpies and try a different turn.
Before you step into the room
At MASA, a Manhattan arts school, Mr. Shapiro brings his late mother Rebecca’s Jewish songbook to a restless class. They walk out. Two students return with a proposal: let us make the songs our own.
Through rehearsals, arguments and pizza, twelve students become the Sharpies. Their musical heads toward a Times Square championship. Along the way, they learn to hear the history in a song and the person beside them.
This is a musical about Jewish memory, teenage humor, and the everyday work of caring for one another.
